FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWhat hole patterns can be drilled or tapped?
Single holes, linear arrays, matrix grids or custom coordinates, as through, blind or counterbored holes. Holes can be drilled, drilled and reamed, or drilled and tapped with metric (M2-M10) or UNC/UNF threads.
How accurate are hole positions?
Hole position tolerance is captured as an engineering requirement and confirmed at review; positional tolerances in the +/- 0.02 to 0.05 mm range are routine for CNC drilling.
CNC Reaming is a subtractive process in which a rotating multi-flute cutter removes material from a fixed workpiece to create flat faces, pockets, slots, bosses, holes and free-form 3D surfaces. Because the tool can approach from several directions on 3-, 4- and 5-axis machines, complex prismatic parts are produced in very few setups.
VT machining runs CNC Reaming in-house, so scheduling, quality and revisions stay under one roof. Reaming finishes drilled holes to a precise diameter and smooth surface in a single controlled pass — and the parameters are set from your material and geometry, not a default recipe. Send a CAD model or a 2D print and we will confirm feasibility, tolerances and lead time before you commit.
How CNC Reaming Works at VT machining
Rotating multi-flute cutters remove material as the metal workpiece is driven through programmed tool paths on 3-, 4- or 5-axis machining centres. Climb milling, step-over and depth-of-cut are set so chip load stays in the ideal band for the alloy.
Every job begins from your CAD model or 2D drawing. Fixturing and tool paths are planned so the most critical dimensions are produced in the most rigid, repeatable setup. Critical dimensions are checked on the first part and monitored through the run.

CNC Reaming Tolerances & Surface Finish
For CNC Reaming, dimensional and positional tolerances around ±0.01 mm are routine, tightening toward ±0.005 mm on precision setups. Surface finish on machined faces typically falls in the Ra 0.4–1.6 µm range depending on tooling and pass strategy.
Final tolerances are governed by the material's behaviour, wall thickness and overall stiffness. We give honest DFM feedback if a callout would be costly or better achieved another way.

CNC Reaming by Metal — Choose Your Material
Choose a metal below for grade-level detail, achievable tolerances and typical parts in that material.
Small design adjustments often cut cost and lead time. Generous internal radii, sensible pocket depth-to-width ratios and avoiding very thin unsupported walls all reduce cost and improve accuracy in metal. If you send your model early, we will return practical DFM feedback before you commit to production.
Secondary Operations & Finishing
Most metal parts need some finishing, which we manage in-house or through vetted partners. Options include deburring and edge-breaking, heat treatment, surface grinding, polishing, and plating or anodising for corrosion resistance and appearance. Give us the finished-part requirement and we will sequence every operation correctly.
CNC Reaming Quality & Inspection
Quality is built in, not inspected on. We monitor key features during the run and confirm them at final inspection, with CMM verification available for tight tolerances. We provide the inspection and traceability records your quality system requires.

Ordering metal parts is straightforward. Provide the drawing, material, quantity and any certification needs. Our engineers reply — in English — with feasibility, pricing and a realistic lead time, usually within one business day.
Have a drawing ready? Send it with your quantity and material for a quotation, usually within one business day.
Most CNC Reaming work uses standard cutting tools and CNC programs; dedicated fixtures are made only when geometry or volume requires them.
What surface finish is achievable on with CNC Reaming?
Surface finish on the part is controlled to your specification; we confirm the achievable Ra against your callout.
Can VT machining make custom parts to my drawing?
Yes. CNC Reaming is made to order from your CAD/2D drawing. Share your geometry, material grade, tolerance and quantity and we will confirm feasibility, lead time and pricing.
What is CNC Reaming and how is it done?
CNC Reaming refers to reaming finishes drilled holes to a precise diameter and smooth surface in a single controlled pass. VT machining produces each part to your CAD drawing, selecting parameters from your tolerance, finish and quantity requirements.
