CNC Turning is a core in-house capability at VT machining, supported by full inspection and a single engineering contact from quote to delivery.
CNC turning rotates the workpiece against a single-point tool to produce cylindrical features, threads and grooves. Every job is programmed from your geometry, run on calibrated equipment and checked against the print before it ships.

Every builder includes the Freeform Corner & Region Editor: cut or add material of any shape directly on the 3D model, then submit an RFQ.This tool is for visual configuration only. Final dimensions, tolerances, materials, coatings, and manufacturability will be reviewed from your drawing or specification.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWhat turned parts fit this builder?
Discs, flanges, spacers, bushings, seal rings and other round parts. You set the outer diameter (inch or mm), thickness/length, optional center bore, bolt hole patterns, flats or keyway notches, and edge treatment.
Can I specify runout, concentricity and surface finish?
Yes. Runout/concentricity and flatness/parallelism are captured as engineering requirements, and face finish can be specified from Ra 3.2 down to Ra 0.4 or custom.
CNC Turning is a subtractive process in which the workpiece rotates in a spindle while a stationary tool removes material, generating cylindrical geometry — outer diameters, bores, faces, tapers, grooves and threads — with excellent concentricity and roundness.
Our shop runs CNC Turning daily, which means proven parameters and short setup times. CNC turning rotates the workpiece against a single-point tool to produce cylindrical features, threads and grooves. Upload your geometry — or draw it in the free builder on this page — and we will come back with pricing and DFM notes.
How CNC Turning Works at VT machining
The metal bar or billet rotates in the spindle while single-point tools shape outer diameters, bores, faces, grooves and threads. Constant surface speed control keeps cutting conditions stable from large to small diameters.
We start from your supplied geometry and tolerance scheme. The setup is designed to minimise re-clamping, which protects positional accuracy across features. A first article is verified against the drawing before the balance of the batch is released.

CNC Turning Tolerances & Surface Finish
Turned metal holds diameter tolerances to about ±0.005 mm with concentricity within 0.01 mm and good roundness. Turned finishes of Ra 0.4–0.8 µm are achievable with finishing passes and sharp tooling.
The tightest tolerances are reserved for the features your drawing flags as critical. Share your tolerance scheme and we will confirm what is realistic before quoting.

CNC Turning by Metal — Choose Your Material
Each material page covers how CNC Turning behaves in that alloy, what tolerances are realistic and where the parts are used.
We are happy to suggest design tweaks that improve manufacturability. Consistent diameters, standard thread forms and avoiding extremely long, slender features help metal turned parts stay concentric and economical. If you send your model early, we will return practical DFM feedback before you commit to production.
Secondary Operations & Finishing
Finished metal parts can move straight into secondary operations under one roof. Typical add-ons are deburring, passivation, anodising, plating, blasting, polishing and laser marking. We coordinate the whole chain so you receive complete, inspection-ready parts.
CNC Turning Quality & Inspection
We control quality throughout the process, not just at the end. In-process checks plus final inspection — including CMM where specified — keep every metal part to print. Inspection reports, material certificates and first-article documentation can be supplied on request.

What surface finish is achievable on with CNC Turning?
Surface finish on the part is controlled to your specification; we confirm the achievable Ra against your callout.
What is CNC Turning and how is it done?
CNC Turning refers to cNC turning rotates the workpiece against a single-point tool to produce cylindrical features, threads and grooves. VT machining produces each part to your CAD drawing, selecting parameters from your tolerance, finish and quantity requirements.
How clean are the edges produced by CNC Turning on ?
Machined the metal edges are clean and to specification; edge-break or deburring is added when your drawing calls for it.
What is the typical lead time and minimum order for CNC Turning?
CNC Turning prototypes for can be produced quickly and scaled to series production. Send your drawing and quantity and we will advise lead time and any minimum order.
