CNC Bending

CNC Bending is a core in-house capability at VT machining, supported by full inspection and a single engineering contact from quote to delivery.

CNC bending forms sheet metal to precise angles using a programmed press brake and back-gauge. Because the same engineers handle quoting, programming and inspection, nothing is lost between your drawing and the finished part.

What Is CNC Bending?

CNC Bending shapes sheet and plate by controlled plastic deformation rather than material removal. CNC ram depth and back-gauge positioning make bend angles and flange dimensions repeatable across a batch, with springback compensated in the program.

VT machining runs CNC Bending in-house, so scheduling, quality and revisions stay under one roof. CNC bending forms sheet metal to precise angles using a programmed press brake and back-gauge — and the parameters are set from your material and geometry, not a default recipe. Send a CAD model or a 2D print and we will confirm feasibility, tolerances and lead time before you commit.

How CNC Bending Works at VT machining

The metal blank is bent or formed against tooling under CNC-controlled ram travel and back-gauge positioning. Bend allowance and springback are compensated in the program so finished angles hit the print.

Every job begins from your CAD model or 2D drawing. Fixturing and tool paths are planned so the most critical dimensions are produced in the most rigid, repeatable setup. Critical dimensions are checked on the first part and monitored through the run.

CNC Bending Tolerances & Surface Finish

Formed metal holds bend angles to about ±0.5° and consistent flange dimensions, with bend allowance compensated for the material and thickness.

Final tolerances are governed by the material's behaviour, wall thickness and overall stiffness. We give honest DFM feedback if a callout would be costly or better achieved another way.

CNC Bending by Metal — Choose Your Material

Choose a metal below for grade-level detail, achievable tolerances and typical parts in that material.

Design Tips for CNC Bending

Small design adjustments often cut cost and lead time. Consistent bend radii, adequate flange lengths and grain-direction awareness reduce cracking and springback in formed metal. If you send your model early, we will return practical DFM feedback before you commit to production.

Secondary Operations & Finishing

Most metal parts need some finishing, which we manage in-house or through vetted partners. Options include deburring and edge-breaking, heat treatment, surface grinding, polishing, and plating or anodising for corrosion resistance and appearance. Give us the finished-part requirement and we will sequence every operation correctly.

CNC Bending Quality & Inspection

Quality is built in, not inspected on. We monitor key features during the run and confirm them at final inspection, with CMM verification available for tight tolerances. We provide the inspection and traceability records your quality system requires.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the typical lead time and minimum order for CNC Bending?

CNC Bending prototypes for can be produced quickly and scaled to series production. Send your drawing and quantity and we will advise lead time and any minimum order.

What is CNC Bending and how is it done?

CNC Bending refers to cNC bending forms sheet metal to precise angles using a programmed press brake and back-gauge. VT machining produces each part to your CAD drawing, selecting parameters from your tolerance, finish and quantity requirements.

Can VT machining make custom parts to my drawing?

Yes. CNC Bending is made to order from your CAD/2D drawing. Share your geometry, material grade, tolerance and quantity and we will confirm feasibility, lead time and pricing.

How clean are the edges produced by CNC Bending on ?

Machined the metal edges are clean and to specification; edge-break or deburring is added when your drawing calls for it.
