FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWhat milled features can I configure?
Edge grooves, center pockets/cavities and edge steps with adjustable width and depth on plate or block stock, plus surface treatments such as anodizing, nickel plating, powder coating and black oxide. 3-, 4- and 5-axis setups can be requested.
What tolerances and surface finish can milling hold?
Standard milled tolerances of +/- 0.05 mm, tighter on request, with surface grades from roughing (Ra 3.2) down to fine finishing (Ra 0.4). Tight-tolerance features are reviewed against your drawing.
CNC Precision Machining is a subtractive process in which a rotating multi-flute cutter removes material from a fixed workpiece to create flat faces, pockets, slots, bosses, holes and free-form 3D surfaces. Because the tool can approach from several directions on 3-, 4- and 5-axis machines, complex prismatic parts are produced in very few setups.
At VT machining the process runs under full CNC control on calibrated equipment. In practice, that means this: Precision machining combines processes and inspection to hold the tightest dimensional and geometric tolerances. If you do not have a CAD file yet, the free 3D + 2D builder on this page will produce a drawing we can quote from.
How CNC Precision Machining Works at VT machining
Rotating multi-flute cutters remove material as the metal workpiece is driven through programmed tool paths on 3-, 4- or 5-axis machining centres. Climb milling, step-over and depth-of-cut are set so chip load stays in the ideal band for the alloy.
Programming is driven directly by your 3D model or print. Work-holding, tool selection and the cutting strategy are planned around the critical features and the material before the first chip is cut. First-off inspection confirms the process is centred before production continues.

For CNC Precision Machining, dimensional and positional tolerances around ±0.01 mm are routine, tightening toward ±0.005 mm on precision setups. Surface finish on machined faces typically falls in the Ra 0.4–1.6 µm range depending on tooling and pass strategy.
Exact achievable figures depend on the alloy, the feature size and the part geometry. Tell us which dimensions are critical and we will advise feasibility up front.

CNC Precision Machining by Metal — Choose Your Material
Select the alloy you are working in to see material-specific capability, design guidance and applications.
A few design choices make a real difference to cost and quality. Generous internal radii, sensible pocket depth-to-width ratios and avoiding very thin unsupported walls all reduce cost and improve accuracy in metal. If you send your model early, we will return practical DFM feedback before you commit to production.
Secondary Operations & Finishing
We complete metal components with the secondary steps your drawing calls for. We arrange heat treatment, surface treatment, marking and assembly as needed. Tell us the final spec and we will plan the full route so parts arrive ready to use.
CNC Precision Machining Quality & Inspection
Consistent quality comes from disciplined process control. Critical dimensions on metal parts are checked in-process and verified at final inspection using calibrated instruments and, where required, CMM measurement. Full documentation — dimensional reports, mill certs, FAIR — is available when your programme needs it.

What tolerances can you hold for CNC Precision Machining?
Achievable tolerances for CNC Precision Machining depend on the alloy, geometry and feature size. Milling holds positional and dimensional tolerances to around ±0.01 mm, tighter with precision setups. Exact figures are confirmed against your drawing callouts.
Can VT machining make custom parts to my drawing?
Yes. CNC Precision Machining is made to order from your CAD/2D drawing. Share your geometry, material grade, tolerance and quantity and we will confirm feasibility, lead time and pricing.
How clean are the edges produced by CNC Precision Machining on ?
Machined the metal edges are clean and to specification; edge-break or deburring is added when your drawing calls for it.
Which industries use CNC Precision Machining parts?
CNC Precision Machining parts are used across aerospace, medical, automotive, electronics, semiconductor and general industrial sectors — anywhere precise components are required.
