CNC Drilling is a core in-house capability at VT machining, supported by full inspection and a single engineering contact from quote to delivery.
Programmed drilling produces accurately positioned holes, including deep and pattern hole arrays. Every job is programmed from your geometry, run on calibrated equipment and checked against the print before it ships.

CNC Drilling & Tapping BuilderConfigure drilled, reamed, tapped and counterbored hole patterns in metal plates: single holes, linear arrays, matrix grids or custom coordinates. Every builder includes the Freeform Corner & Region Editor: cut or add material of any shape directly on the 3D model, then submit an RFQ.This tool is for visual configuration only. Final dimensions, tolerances, materials, coatings, and manufacturability will be reviewed from your drawing or specification.
Paste a configuration JSON (from Export) or a copied RFQ summary. The product and all recognized parameters are applied automatically; unknown parameters are listed and skipped.
Answer the choices below step by step — every value comes from the real option list, so it always renders.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWhat hole patterns can be drilled or tapped?
Single holes, linear arrays, matrix grids or custom coordinates, as through, blind or counterbored holes. Holes can be drilled, drilled and reamed, or drilled and tapped with metric (M2-M10) or UNC/UNF threads.
How accurate are hole positions?
Hole position tolerance is captured as an engineering requirement and confirmed at review; positional tolerances in the +/- 0.02 to 0.05 mm range are routine for CNC drilling.
CNC Drilling is a subtractive process in which a rotating multi-flute cutter removes material from a fixed workpiece to create flat faces, pockets, slots, bosses, holes and free-form 3D surfaces. Because the tool can approach from several directions on 3-, 4- and 5-axis machines, complex prismatic parts are produced in very few setups.
Our shop runs CNC Drilling daily, which means proven parameters and short setup times. Programmed drilling produces accurately positioned holes, including deep and pattern hole arrays. Upload your geometry — or draw it in the free builder on this page — and we will come back with pricing and DFM notes.
How CNC Drilling Works at VT machining
Rotating multi-flute cutters remove material as the metal workpiece is driven through programmed tool paths on 3-, 4- or 5-axis machining centres. Climb milling, step-over and depth-of-cut are set so chip load stays in the ideal band for the alloy.
We start from your supplied geometry and tolerance scheme. The setup is designed to minimise re-clamping, which protects positional accuracy across features. A first article is verified against the drawing before the balance of the batch is released.

CNC Drilling Tolerances & Surface Finish
For CNC Drilling, dimensional and positional tolerances around ±0.01 mm are routine, tightening toward ±0.005 mm on precision setups. Surface finish on machined faces typically falls in the Ra 0.4–1.6 µm range depending on tooling and pass strategy.
The tightest tolerances are reserved for the features your drawing flags as critical. Share your tolerance scheme and we will confirm what is realistic before quoting.

CNC Drilling by Metal — Choose Your Material
Each material page covers how CNC Drilling behaves in that alloy, what tolerances are realistic and where the parts are used.
We are happy to suggest design tweaks that improve manufacturability. Generous internal radii, sensible pocket depth-to-width ratios and avoiding very thin unsupported walls all reduce cost and improve accuracy in metal. If you send your model early, we will return practical DFM feedback before you commit to production.
Secondary Operations & Finishing
Finished metal parts can move straight into secondary operations under one roof. Typical add-ons are deburring, passivation, anodising, plating, blasting, polishing and laser marking. We coordinate the whole chain so you receive complete, inspection-ready parts.
CNC Drilling Quality & Inspection
We control quality throughout the process, not just at the end. In-process checks plus final inspection — including CMM where specified — keep every metal part to print. Inspection reports, material certificates and first-article documentation can be supplied on request.
Industries That Order CNC Drilling
CNC Drilling parts made by VT machining go into the sectors below. Each page lists the typical components, preferred alloys and the tolerance expectations for that industry.
Starting your project takes one email. Send your CAD or 2D drawing, the metal grade and condition, the quantity and any finish or inspection requirements. We respond quickly with price, lead time and any DFM notes, in clear English.
Have a drawing ready? Send it with your quantity and material for a quotation, usually within one business day.
CNC Drilling parts are used across aerospace, medical, automotive, electronics, semiconductor and general industrial sectors — anywhere precise components are required.
What surface finish is achievable on with CNC Drilling?
Surface finish on the part is controlled to your specification; we confirm the achievable Ra against your callout.
What is the typical lead time and minimum order for CNC Drilling?
CNC Drilling prototypes for can be produced quickly and scaled to series production. Send your drawing and quantity and we will advise lead time and any minimum order.
How clean are the edges produced by CNC Drilling on ?
Machined the metal edges are clean and to specification; edge-break or deburring is added when your drawing calls for it.
