CNC Engraving at VT machining covers a broad range of metals and grades, each processed to your drawing with parameters tuned to the alloy.
CNC engraving marks logos, text, serial data and fine detail by removing a controlled depth of metal. Every job is programmed from your geometry, run on calibrated equipment and checked against the print before it ships.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONSWhat is photochemical etching good for?
Fine patterns, channels, meshes, openings and half-etched features in thin metal sheets and foils (typically 0.02-0.5 mm) with no mechanical force, burrs or induced stress — ideal for EMI shields, encoder discs, fuel cell plates and springs.
What feature sizes can be etched?
Minimum feature size is roughly equal to sheet thickness, with etch depth controlled to single-digit microns. Single-side, double-side and half-etch plus through-etch combinations are supported.
CNC Engraving is a subtractive process in which a rotating multi-flute cutter removes material from a fixed workpiece to create flat faces, pockets, slots, bosses, holes and free-form 3D surfaces. Because the tool can approach from several directions on 3-, 4- and 5-axis machines, complex prismatic parts are produced in very few setups.
Our shop runs CNC Engraving daily, which means proven parameters and short setup times. CNC engraving marks logos, text, serial data and fine detail by removing a controlled depth of metal. Upload your geometry — or draw it in the free builder on this page — and we will come back with pricing and DFM notes.
How CNC Engraving Works at VT machining
Rotating multi-flute cutters remove material as the metal workpiece is driven through programmed tool paths on 3-, 4- or 5-axis machining centres. Climb milling, step-over and depth-of-cut are set so chip load stays in the ideal band for the alloy.
We start from your supplied geometry and tolerance scheme. The setup is designed to minimise re-clamping, which protects positional accuracy across features. A first article is verified against the drawing before the balance of the batch is released.

CNC Engraving Tolerances & Surface Finish
For CNC Engraving, dimensional and positional tolerances around ±0.01 mm are routine, tightening toward ±0.005 mm on precision setups. Surface finish on machined faces typically falls in the Ra 0.4–1.6 µm range depending on tooling and pass strategy.
The tightest tolerances are reserved for the features your drawing flags as critical. Share your tolerance scheme and we will confirm what is realistic before quoting.

CNC Engraving by Metal — Choose Your Material
Each material page covers how CNC Engraving behaves in that alloy, what tolerances are realistic and where the parts are used.
We are happy to suggest design tweaks that improve manufacturability. Generous internal radii, sensible pocket depth-to-width ratios and avoiding very thin unsupported walls all reduce cost and improve accuracy in metal. If you send your model early, we will return practical DFM feedback before you commit to production.
Secondary Operations & Finishing
Finished metal parts can move straight into secondary operations under one roof. Typical add-ons are deburring, passivation, anodising, plating, blasting, polishing and laser marking. We coordinate the whole chain so you receive complete, inspection-ready parts.
CNC Engraving Quality & Inspection
We control quality throughout the process, not just at the end. In-process checks plus final inspection — including CMM where specified — keep every metal part to print. Inspection reports, material certificates and first-article documentation can be supplied on request.

Starting your project takes one email. Send your CAD or 2D drawing, the metal grade and condition, the quantity and any finish or inspection requirements. We respond quickly with price, lead time and any DFM notes, in clear English.
Have a drawing ready? Send it with your quantity and material for a quotation, usually within one business day.
Most CNC Engraving work uses standard cutting tools and CNC programs; dedicated fixtures are made only when geometry or volume requires them.
What surface finish is achievable on with CNC Engraving?
Surface finish on the part is controlled to your specification; we confirm the achievable Ra against your callout.
What tolerances can you hold for CNC Engraving?
Achievable tolerances for CNC Engraving depend on the alloy, geometry and feature size. Milling holds positional and dimensional tolerances to around ±0.01 mm, tighter with precision setups. Exact figures are confirmed against your drawing callouts.
What is CNC Engraving and how is it done?
CNC Engraving refers to cNC engraving marks logos, text, serial data and fine detail by removing a controlled depth of metal. VT machining produces each part to your CAD drawing, selecting parameters from your tolerance, finish and quantity requirements.
What material thickness or size range suits CNC Engraving?
We machine the material across a broad size range; share your part envelope for confirmation.
